My Trainee MUA role on Christine’s latest film

Working in makeup has always been my dream and as soon as I stepped into Christine Blundell Makeup Academy for the first time, I knew it was the place for me.  Having had a career in HR since leaving university, it was nerve-wracking deciding to take a leap into something so new but I’m so glad that I did it! Petar and Zorica are warm and welcoming and you immediately feel at home at the Academy, and all of the tutors are so knowledgeable and supportive.  You really do learn from the best in the industry, getting all the tricks of the trade.

I studied at CBMA between September and December 2020 and had the best time. I learned so many new skills and discovered a love for hair and wigs – the thing that frightened me most when I started the course!  I had never touched a wig or styled anyone’s hair before starting the course, but with the guidance of our wigs tutors, Sue Pedersen and Cynthia de la Rosa I accomplished sets and styles ranging from Roman times all the way to the 1950s. It’s an intense 4 months but the time and care you get from the tutors really makes it worth it.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to be the trainee on Christine’s team in March 2021 on a film called The Outfit, starring Mark Rylance and Johnny Flynn.  My main duties were setting up the workstations, keeping the makeup room clean and tidy, looking after the background actors, making the tea and getting lunches, and keeping continuity pictures and timesheets.  It was an incredible experience and such a lovely team to work with.  Chrissie, Lesa and Chloe all made me feel so welcome and at ease, I’ll always be grateful to them for such a wonderful first job!

Now that I’ve finished on The Outfit, my next job is as a trainee on a new TV series for Apple TV+ that I’ll be starting in June.  I can’t wait to get started on a new project and keep learning and developing my skills in the industry.  I would never have been able to do it without CBMA, I would recommend them to anyone thinking about starting a career in hair and makeup. Thank you for such an amazing start to mine!
